Scratch Built Collective Pitch Hornet Hybrid V2

Part 2 - Tail

The tail is a simple construction consisting mainly of 8mm DIA tube which can either be carbon or alloy. Their is an adapter in the ned to accept the tail motor mount

The support locks into a slot cut in th eunderside of the boom and locates against the undercarriage cross memeber, therefore no fixings are required.

I made up an addapter from brass tube to fit the rear tail gearbox and fixed this in place using JB Weld.

I cut the slot for the tail support by using the 'roll template' from the drawing, no other holes are required in the tailboom.

I cheated with the fins on this version by purcahsing some lightweight alloy versions from Duzi.

The vertical version needs a 10mm collar as it appears to be designed for a 10mm dia boom

This picture shows how the tail support is held in place at the front by a slot cut into the bottom chassis plate and a slot filed into the rear landing gear cross member.

It also shows clearly how the tailboom fits into the rear delrin spacer block.
