The tail is made from a high strength 7178-T9
alloy arrow shaft. This particular shaft is made by Easton
Arrows and called an Eclipse X7. Arrow shafts are generally
sized in 64th of an inch as this tailboom is 8mm the nearest
metric equivalent is a 2012 size shaft, the first two figures
of 20/64 being the outside diameter of the shaft which is
just under 8mm and the last two figures 12/64 equating to
the wall thickness. The shafts are extremely lightweight,
very strong, cut easily with a pipe cutter and best of all
cheaper than a standard shaft!
As I am using a 397 tooth belt from a TRex for
the taildrive the tail is some 22mm longer than the standard
tail, this allows for longer mainblades and also a slightly
heavier motor.
The tail mounts into the RCHelitech jockey unit
at the front, at the rear is an adapted Microheli gearbox.

The RCHelitech jockey unit is bolted in
place to the main horizontal chassis member, this acts
as th efront mount for the tailboom.
The jockey unt has two hex head grub screws
that pinch the boom from both sides and holds it securely.
